There are numerous desktop scanner manufacturers. Most of their top-of-the-line products offer bit-depths and resolutions far in excess of what is needed in the CAD world. Unless you'll be sharing the scanner with graphics designers who need 32-bit color at 1,200 dpi, you can save money by buying lower-end models.

TRIVIA

Where does the word TracTrix come from? A tractrix is an 'equitangential' curve, first studied and named by the mathematician Huygens in 1692. Want to know more about this, or any other curve? Click here for a great math site at the University of St Andrews, Scotland.
