A Brief History of Trix
Systems |
History
Trix Systems AB was founded in 1989 by Jörgen Frilander, Per
Hillerström, and Dennis Jeryd and is based in Göteborg, Sweden.
Initially established as a CAD consulting company, its client base grew
rapidly to include many of Scandanavia's most prestigious corporations
and public sector organizations.
In 1992 Trix used its wide experience in solving CAD problems to
develop TracTrix software - its first 'shrink-wrapped' application.
Further shrink-wrapped products soon followed. Trix Systems US
operation, Trix Systems, Inc. was founded in 1995 and is located in
Chelmsford, Massachusetts.
The company employs 11 people and its software products are sold in
18 countries around the world. Distribution is primarily through
national distributors. Trix Systems also continues to provide consulting
services to clients. The company is privately held.
Core Business
Development of software that enables CAD (Computer Aided Design) users
to apply CAD more efficiently to the physical and organizational
realities of construction and manufacturing. |

Business Environment
The drawing board has been replaced by CAD. This has not reduced the
amount of paper used in engineering. Products, buildings, tools are all
still brought into being by making reference to drawings on paper. The
computer screen is not yet sufficiently usable or durable for the shop
floor or construction site.
So the end product of CAD for everyday use is still paper. And
administration and integration of the mix of paper and computer files
has been a nightmare.
Imagine you are a vendor for a component. Should I send you the
specification as a design on paper or as a CAD file? What if you alter
the CAD file without letting me know? Maybe you won't accept a CAD file
because of these very implications? Or, conversely, you send me a design
on paper and I need to have it in CAD to integrate with my overall
product design. And what if some designs are in CAD and some on paper?
Trix Systems has built its business by solving these sorts of
problems, initially as custom solutions and now also as shrink-wrapped
applications.
In technical terms: CAD systems describe objects using vectors.
Objects on paper comprise lots of tiny ink dots which human eyes
interpret. These dot-based images are known as rasters. Trix software
solves the problems of translation between rasters, vectors and the
human eye. |
